In August 2020, Schulte Marine Concept was awarded the plan approval and construction supervision services for LNG carrier to FSRU conversion.
After vessel’s arrival at COSCO Shanghai Shipyard, China and upon first docking, a detailed joint “CAP Survey” was conducted by LR Classification and SMC to finalize the scope of repair and life extension works of the vessel which was built in 2002.
A comprehensive list of all structural works was prepared as well as the scope for maintenance, refurbishment and overhauling of all existing major and auxiliary machinery and systems were planned.
The repair works and construction of the Power Module started in Q2 2021 at COSCO Shanghai, and construction of the Regas Module commenced in COSCO Qidong Offshore Division.
The project was challenging in many aspects from the design, to construction, installation, commissioning, and trials.
In 2021 and 2022, Covid limitations in China and an extended lockdown in Shanghai, required a detailed planning and coordination for executing inspections, FATs and audits by SMC Project Management Team and SMC Site Supervision Team keeping in mind the contractual targets set for both technical, quality, and commercial aspects and the project schedule.
Regas Module was completed and installed onboard in December 2022, followed by construction of Power Module, piping fabrication and installation of new equipment onboard.
The vessel was docked 3 times during the conversion process and by July 2023, she departed yard for the first sea trial of the marine equipment.
The second sea and partial gas trials were carried out in October 2023.
Upon successful completion of both trials and after rectifying the remaining punch items, on 16th Jan 2024, the vessel “Prometheus” (previous “GALEA”) was officially handed over from the Builder to the CPP for final delivery to be carried out in Cyprus.
