SMC had the great opportunity to be assigned the construction supervision work for one 130,000 tons lifting capacity (TLC) floating dock, ordered by Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited and built by QingDao BeiHai Shipbuilding (QBS), renowned and experienced floating docks builders.
One of the largest in the world, the dock was designed and will be constructed for operation at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport, Grand Bahama. The basic design package is provided by Clark & Standfield.
For its operational life of at least 30 years, the dock will be capable of lifting and carrying vessels of up to 130,000 tons displacement. High-capacity pumps located in the ten (10) sidewall pumprooms will ensure evolution times as brief as 4 hours for docked vessels of 10m draft.
The berthing ship handling system is comprised of two (2) triple-barrel hauling winches, two (2) monorail berthing trolleys, eight (8) electrically operated, reversible capstans, fairleads and guide sheaves.
Weight handling for proper operation will be ensured by four (4) dock cranes, 64t x 15m / 32t x 31 m / 19t x 45 m, electric luffing jib type tower travelling portal type, two on each side. Dock shore HV electrical supplies and utilities will be provided along the gangways access.
The dock will be constructed as a whole, then separated and delivered in 4 sections and towed to Freeport, where it will be reassembled in its final configuration, rendered operational and commissioned.
